The peridot is one of the few precious stones that we will find in a single color, the green one. Peridot is an idiochromatic gem, because its tone comes from the basic composition of the same mineral (not from minor impurities, as happens in other natural gemstones). Peridot is also named “crisolite” or “olivine” and it is characterized by its oily and bright appearance, similar to glass. The most important site of Peridot is found in the Red Sea, on the Zebirget Island. In Russia, there are pieces of peridot that comes from a metorite (felt in Eastern Siberia in 1749).
